Carter Caves Camping Trip
📅 Dates: Friday, July 17 – Sunday, July 19, 2026

📍 Location: Carter Caves State Resort Park, KY (camping in the primitive area)
Schedule Meet at the church at 5:30 PM Friday to load gear. Depart 6:00 PM sharp for Carter Caves. Saturday we'll go caving in Laurel Cave and Horn Hollow Cave, with time for swimming (they have a pool). Return Sunday around 1:00 PM.

What to Bring — Cave Equipment
Class A uniform for travel to and from
3 sources of light (headlamp, flashlight, spare batteries) — required
Day pack for water, energy bars, extra light in the cave
Cave clothes: warm sweat-wicking layer or wool shirt (it's cold in the cave), wool socks, loose-fit jeans or coveralls
Cave boots/shoes (they will get wet)
Helmet (required — bike helmets work, or borrow one from troop storage)
Gloves (lightweight work gloves; some available to borrow)
Knee pads (a few crawl spots) + duct tape to keep them on
Large trash bag for wet/dirty clothes afterward
Other Camp Items
Non-cave clothes to change into afterward
Swimsuit
Dry shoes/boots (not worn in the cave)
Extra batteries
Filled water bottle
Emergency kit (whistle, pocket knife, emergency blanket, etc.)
Rain jacket (and pants, optional)
Personal first aid kit
Extra cash for Dairy Queen
Bus Carry-On Pack a plastic bag with clothes to change into after travel — uniforms (including Scout socks) stay on the bus so we travel home in clean uniforms.
Rules No electronic devices (phones, gaming devices, etc.). Sheath, butterfly, and survival-type knives are not allowed on the reservation — if brought, they'll be held by the Scoutmaster. All fuel (propane, white gas) must be checked in and held by an adult leader.
