Join Troop 73 for an exciting Fall Break adventure in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! We will be setting up basecamp at the Elkmont Campground (Group Site #1) for multiple days of hiking, mountain streams, exploring, and outdoor fun.

Trip Details & Dates

  • Dates: September 27 – September 30 (Meet at 7:30 AM, Wheels up at 8:00 AM)

  • Location: Elkmont Campground (Group Site #1), Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN

  • Who: Troop 73 Scouts, Leaders, and Registered Adults

Planned Activities

  • Inner-Tubing the Creek: Floating the stream by Elkmont Campground / Little River (Bring a tube!)

  • Alum Cave Bluff Trail: Scenic hike along the Alum Cave trail.

  • Laurel Falls: Classic waterfall hike.

  • Campground Fun & Exploration: Exploring historic cabin ruins, evening campfire ranger programs, and field games around camp.

  • Anakeesta (Subject to Troop Vote): Mountaintop adventure park in Gatlinburg featuring the TreeTop SkyWalk, Vista Tower, and scenic mountain views.

Cost & Registration

  • $85 per person – If the Troop votes not to do Anakeesta.

  • $125 per person – If the Troop votes to do Anakeesta.

(Includes campsite fees, group food/meals, activities, and logistics).

What to Bring (Packing Overview)

  • Class A Shirt and Neckerchief (for travel) and Class B t-shirts

  • Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and mess kit

  • Sturdy hiking boots / trail shoes & daypack for hikes (water bottle, rain jacket, trail snacks)

  • Swimwear, water shoes / secure sandals, and a towel for tubing/creek activities

  • Grab a cheap inflatable tube off Amazon!

  • Warm layers and cold-weather sleepwear (mountain temperatures drop significantly at night)

  • Personal toiletries, headlamp/flashlight

Transportation & Meeting Logistics

  • Departure: Meet at the church parking lot (7:30 AM) to load personal gear, group equipment, and coordinate carpools/passenger vehicles.

  • Return: We will return on the afternoon/evening of September 30. Departure updates will be communicated via a group text chat.
